Timeline

The timeline displays historical events of both the local Ya'an region and China as a whole, pulling results from the project database. Local events are drawn from oral history and County Gazetteers, and "national" events are based on a broad outline of modern Chinese history. Highlighted events on the timeline link to the database entry on that event, with a description and related features, people, places, texts, and media objects.

Local historical events displayed on the timeline can be sorted by event type (cultural, political, construction), by place (specific county), place type, and feature type.

The timeline not only places local events in a broader context, it also enables readers to contrast local historical experience (histories) with the History of the nation.
